The world is short of food and renewable energy with ongoing shortages projected. Population growth and increasing demand for protein, declining yield improvements, degraded land and increasing non-food uses lead to increasing food prices, rainforest destruction, increased applications of fertiliser and over-exploitation of limited water resources.
Cassava, a tough yet productive crop, delivers high quality starch, protein and fibre along with key vitamins and high calcium making it an ideal plant to meet growing demands for carbohydrate. An integrated farming, factory and feedlot enterprise fully utilises the cassava plant to maximise value.
Our vision is to establish an integrated farm, factory and feedlot producing tapioca starch, cattle and energy – an Integrated Food and Energy Design© with control of all input costs and near-zero carbon emissions.CassTech Limited (CTL) is a dynamic Australian unlisted public company, which is establishing a US$80M long-life, tapioca starch factory and feedlot within the Burdekin region in North Queensland, Australia. CTL is planning to build the factory and feedlot on the farm-site adjacent to the Elliot Irrigation channel.
Additional cassava can be sourced from surrounding areas, although Stage 1 of the project is underpinned by its own farming operations.
The Project has the potential to be one of the largest of its type in the world. With the primary objective of owning and developing contiguous farming areas adjacent to the proposed extension of the Elliot Irrigation Channel, the production of tapioca starch will increase to more than 500,000 tonnes per year.
This will provide a solid foundation for further downstream expansion into biofuels and/or bioplastics. Political stability, trained workforce, access to markets through the Port of Townsville, highly reliable water supply and a centre for renewable energy are regional features supporting large scale investment into bioplastics production.
The Burdekin Integrated Cassava Project, Stage 1, will comprise:
